Jewels Cockers Diamond's Story

Early Years

Jewels A Girl's Best Friend (Diamond) was born on January 9, 2006 at Julie Nelson's home (owner and breeder  of the Jewels line).  When I was at Julie's home, in 2013, I observed Diamond in a 3 x 3 kennel in Julie's house.  Julie told me that Diamond was not housebroken so she was not allowed to run freely.

Her sire (father) was Kaibab's Keeper of the Keys and her dam (mother)  Jewels Savoy Key to My Heart (Sierra).

Julie told me that Diamond had a hard time being bred.  She told me that the first litter only had one live puppy which died shortly after birth.  She told me that the second litter delivered live puppies (in 2012 when Diamond was  6 yrs old) but that Diamond had killed two of the puppies somehow.  Julie said that she did not know how it happened.

Glaucoma

Diamond was diagnosed with glaucoma

Julie had to have Diamond's her right eye removed in 2014.

Mammary Tumors

Mammary tumors were discovered and the recommended treatment for a dog Diamond's age is to have the masses removed and the dog spayed.

More bad news

According to Julie, during preparation for Diamond's surgery the vets found a another tumor prompting additional tests.  The tests showed that the mammary cancer had metastasized to her lung.

Surgery was canceled due to the more serious diagnosis of metastasic disease.

Free Treatment

According to Julie she received a free clinical trial to treat the lung tumor. She was happy that this treatment was successful.

The next step was to remove the mammary tumors and spay Diamond  as soon as possible.

Follow Up

'Did the Jewels breeder take Diamond to another vet for the tumor removal and spay?'

Diamond died  in October 2016.    She was 10 yrs old

Dedicated to Jewels Charmed I'm Sure 'Emily', RIP 12-11-2018
